Our Story
Let us tell you about us: ViaVia Entebbe was founded at the end of 2016 by Pieter, Lobke and Steven, finding the right Belgian and Ugandan ingredients to shake the cocktail until it bustles, inspires and invites.
ViaVia is a meeting place in Entebbe for locals, expats and travelers. The aim is to be an open space for innovation, for social and sustainable entrepreneurship, a place for musicians to jam, a space for poets to perform, for children to play, birds to fly and monkeys to eat fruits, a place where you can forge plans, where people can create, dream and try out … ViaVia Entebbe is embedded in the local environment and reinforces the community. We have a focus on sustainable tourism to create adventure, a positive impact on the community, environment and economy, stimulating cultural exchange and responsible traveling.
We would like to share the beauty of Uganda with you. We will operate as passionate guides to let you discover the most interesting places in the surroundings of Entebbe and Uganda.

CosmoGolem
The CosmoGolem is a wooden giant created by Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen. The project focuses on the empowerment of children and their rights, with a special focus on creativity and hope, personal expression and self-confidence. Using a 4 meter tall wooden Giant of Hope, Koen Vanmechelen encourages children to express themselves through poetry, dance, stories and visual art.
In particular, the giant is a symbolic helper and saviour for all children in the world. Although he is always silent, it allows children to speak. Thus, the Giant of Hope helps them find their identity and voice by allowing them to deposit their dreams, hopes and desires through a hatch in the construction. This is not the only cooporation with Koen Vanmechelen, learn more about the other projects here on our website and on Labiomista’s website.
The giant consists of 5 major components:
So far, over 45 CosmoGolems have been built around the globe, from India to Poland, from Nicaragua to Tanzania …. In cooperation with ViaVia the CosmoGolem family has expanded to Entebbe! Find out more about CosmoGolem worldwide on the website.
Workshops, like dance, painting, and poetry, are organized near the Golem to encourage children to express their thoughts and emotions. These workshops provide an opportunity to gain knowledge on important topics in an engaging and playful manner. The silent giant empowers children by helping them find their own voice and identity.
The CosmoGolem is constructed with the help of children, under the artist’s supervision. Where the giant stands, children gather to communicate, philosophize, create, and share in various forms. For the materials, we prioritized eco-friendly and locally sourced products, which is why the CosmoGolem in Entebbe is crafted from bamboo.
By supporting the CosmoGolem, ViaVia Entebbe contributes to its mission of connecting communities worldwide and encourages local children to dream and create.

There are more than 15 ViaVia’s spread over 4 continents and the network keeps growing. Most of them have a restaurant and a hostel. They are places with music and art embedded in their profiles. Some are organizing tours and courses, some sell fair trade products, artisan foods and products and/or work together with social and environmental projects, etc. What they all have in common: they breath and live the hunger for a more pleasant world where people are open, knowledgable and considerate about each other’s culture and environment. They are breeding places of creativity, good world food and justness.

Directions
If you come from the north, from direction Kampala, you should take the exit left towards Victoria Mall, indicated by the large traffic sign. Head back onto the highway in the opposite direction. From now on follow directions from the south.
If you come from the south, where you have the airport and the Botanical Gardens, take the exit left off the Portal Road, this is a small street just after the Total gas station. If you miss this exit, you can drive through the Shell gas station to get back on track. Turn right onto Katabi road.
Drive, walk or pedal next to the Mayor’s Garden, turn left onto the tarmacked Busambaga Road. Wave hello to the Hindu Temple on the right, and stay sharp. Less than a kilometer from Mayor’s Garden, be on the lookout for our subtle ViaVia sign on the left. It marks your turn!
